Alicia Hinger is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). She brings over 25 years of experience to the field of clinical assessment and counselling. Alicia’s career started out in the forensic field in both residential care and correctional settings She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1995 and then went onto complete her Masters Degree in Professional Counselling (Counselling psychology) in 1998. She began her work in private practice in May of 1999 and has maintained this practice ever since. In addition, she has worked for the Solicitor General, Correctional Services, National Parole Board, Community Corrections and Alberta Child and Family Services providing assessment, individual, family and group therapy. Although many of her contracts have been focused on Assessment (Addictions, Parenting, At-Risk or High-Risk behaviours, Personality etc), her clinical interests have always remained “Systems” oriented, heavily rooted in Attachment theory. She brings her knowledge of this theory to counselling through the use of thorough assessment (including primary attachment relationships) and the creation of a truly individualized treatment plan for each couple (or individual) she works with. In addition to her many years of clinical/assessment work and training, she also utilizes the Gottman method for couples (level II), Emotions Focused Therapy (EFT) Couples Counselling (PACT), by Stan Tatkin. She maintains regular contact with her consultation group and travels to Los Angeles periodically to meet with Mr. Tatkin in person. Although this is above and beyond the requirements of her regulatory body (the College of Alberta Psychologists) she feels it is of utmost importance to maintain the highest standards of continued learning, consultation and service for her clients here in Southern Alberta. The PACT approach provides a sound framework for the integration of other theories and interventions. PACT is heavily rooted in Attachment theory, developmental, neuroscience, psychobiological regulatory systems (including the neuroendocrine systems) and therapeutic enactment. It is developing into one of the most popular and effective means for working with couples.
